KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Kathryn Slattery, AIA Principal at Quinn Evans Architects - 1 CEU
Kathryn Slattery, AIA, LEED AP, NCARB, is a principal at Quinn Evans and operational director of the firm’s Washington, DC, office. With deep experience in visitor-focused projects for museum, zoo, and park clients including the National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution, and Mount Vernon, Katie embodies Quinn Evans’ commitment to the regeneration of existing places and the communities they serve.
Katie holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Catholic University of America and a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan. She is a registered architect in four states and the District of Columbia. She most recently presented on Quinn Evans’ LEED Gold-certified renovation of the National Zoo’s historic Bird House at the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ annual meeting.

This Advanced Building Code course addresses the specific requirements of the Florida Accessibility Code for Building Construction and the ADA. The course will instruct attendants in the common errors that have and are occurring in construction relating to accessibility issues. There will be an update as to what the Federal Access Board and the Department of Justice is looking at as it relates to requirements for accessibility. Exterior Cladding Innovation: Rainscreen Design with Ultracompact Surfacing

Taking the Guesswork out of Mixed-Use Building Analysis
While mixed-use buildings—which combine multiple occupancy types and/or functions in a single structure—are common, determining how to apply their unique mix of code requirements can be a daunting task. To simplify code analysis associated with these buildings, this presentation covers logical, code-compliant steps for a number of topics, including determining allowable building size, separation needs, detailing requirements, and the application of special provisions.
