Become an AIA Member

 
For more than 150 years, members of the American Institute of Architects have worked together with their communities to create valuable, healthy, secure, and sustainable buildings and cityscapes.
 
The American Institute of Architects exists to create opportunities for professional development and fellowship, as well as raise awareness of the architecture profession in the community.
The American Institute of Architects is a three-tier organization. Bylaws require that Members join and maintain membership at all three levels: National, State, & Local Chapter.                                                                              
Membership Types

ARCHITECT MEMBER

Currently licensed to practice architecture in the United States. Proof of current licensure (wallet certificate) must be furnished with application.

 

Title: May use the initials AIA after your name.

ASSOCIATE NEW GRADUATE

Individuals who have graduated with a professional degree in architecture from an accredited school may be eligible for up to 18 months free membership upon graduation.

NAAB-accredited degree holder eligibility.

You must have recently graduated with a NAAB-accredited Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate professional degree in architecture within the past 18 months.

ALLIED MEMBER

Allied Members are organizations with a vested interest in the architectural industry that use AIA Orlando as a platform to grow their industry knowledge, while networking & conducting business with other members.

 

Allied Members are employed outside of traditional architectural practice but are involved in positions related to the field.

EMERITUS MEMBER

An AIA member for 15 successive years and 70 years of age or incapacitated and unable to work in the profession.

 

Title: May use the initials AIA after your name.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER

Currently licensed to practice architecture in the United States. Proof of current licensure (wallet certificate) must be furnished with application.

 

Title: May use the

Unlicensed to practice architecture but meets one of the following criteria:

  1. Under the supervision of an architect in a professional or technical capacity.

  2. A faculty member in an accredited university program in architecture.

  3. Holds a professional degree in architecture.

  4. Enrolled in Intern Development Program (IDP).

Title: may use the title "Associate AIA" after your name.

INTERNATIONAL MEMBER

Holder of an architecture licensure or equivalent from a non-U.S. licensing authority, but without a license to practice in U.S. Proof of foreign licensure must be provided.

Title: May use the title "Associate AIA" after your name, but not the term "AIA Associate"

Events & Networking

We have several networking, fun and educational events, including our new Allied Breakfasts on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, in which we feature an Architecture Firm of the Month.

Education

Continuing education is required for all registered architects who practice in the state of Florida and are members of AIA. The Florida Statutes require architects to complete continuing education for licensure, while the AIA requires it for membership.
