Call For Service Entries

It’s important to the AIA Orlando Board of Directors and Design Awards Committee to recognize outstanding contributions in the architectural community.

MEDAL OF HONOR

 

The Medal of Honor shall be awarded to a distinguished AIA Orlando Member who has demonstrated extraordinary service to AIA Orlando, the Central Florida Community or the profession of Architecture. While this honor is not intended to be a life time achievement award, it should represent and credit a series substantial achievements throughout ones career that distinguishes the Member in the eyes of his or her peers related to design, practice, education, research, literature, leadership in the profession or public service. This award will be the highest honor the Chapter can bestow on a Member. The recipient of the Medal of Honor must be or have been, in the case of retirement or death, a member in good standing of the AIA for a period of ten years. A nomination must be made by at least five AIA Orlando Members (Associate members are not eligible to be nominees). Nominations shall include a detailed biography and history of achievement with examples of the individual’s achievements (not to exceed 15 pages). Nominees shall be AIA members in good standing for at least ten years. Winner is selected by the previous Medal of Honor recipients and the Chair of the Design Awards committee. There is no template for submission, but must include "Medal of Honor Nomination Sheet."

NILS M. SCHWEIZER AWARD

 

This prestigious award is given to recognize an architect whose leadership in community activities and service has been a direct benefit to the profession or community. Winner is selected by the Board of Directors of AIA Orlando.  This award may be self-nominated, or another member may nominate an individual, using the “Call for Nominations Template.”

 

AWARD OF MERIT

 

This award was developed to give recognition to an individual citizen, public official, or member of an allied profession, who is not an architect, who has advanced the cause of good design and planning and/or has enhanced the public awareness of the value of architects and architecture to society. Winner is selected by the Board of Directors of AIA Orlando. This award may be self-nominated, or another member may nominate an individual, using the “Call for Nominations Template.”

 

FIRM OF THE YEAR AWARD

 

This award recognizes outstanding achievement in design, community services, education, and service to the profession and the AIA by an architectural firm. Projects, accomplishments and service submitted must reflect a period of at least 5 years. To be eligible, teams may not submit for this award if they have previously received this award in the last 10 years. Winner is selected by the Board of Directors of AIA Orlando. An active AIA member at the respective firm may nominate; there is no template for submission.

CONTRACTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

 

The award is given to a company or firm in Central Florida who has exemplified a sincere interest in encouraging and affecting outstanding craftsmanship and workmanship on local projects, and has made a significant impact to Central Florida by its active involvement and leadership within the community. Winner is selected by the Board of Directors of AIA Orlando. An active AIA member may nominate: there is no template for this submission.

 

CONSULTANT OF THE YEAR AWARD

 

The award is given to a company or firm in Central Florida who has exemplified a sincere interest in encouraging and affecting outstanding craftsmanship and workmanship on local projects, and has made a significant impact to Central Florida by its active involvement and leadership within the community. Winner is selected by the Board of Directors of AIA Orlando. An active AIA member may nominate: there is no template for this submission.

 

FRED H. PRYOR YOUNG ARCHITECT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

 

This award is given to honor and recognize an architect, who has been licensed to practice architecture fewer than 10 years, who consistently demonstrates excellence and exceptional promise. The term “young architect” has no reference to the age of the nominee.  Evaluation criteria include the following contributions to:

  • The value of design, practice, or education

  • Giving back to the profession through work with the AIA or other industry-related organizations, mentoring, etc.

  • Giving back to the community

  • Leadership

This award may be self-nominated, or another member may nominate an individual, using the “Call for Nominations Template.”  Please also include the following:

  • Nomination letter

  • Describe how the candidate's work may be considered notable and how it has advanced the profession of architecture. Include education, date of graduation, date of licensure, work history, dates list of offices, positions, honors, publications, and presentations that relate to the purpose of the award

  • Summary of Accomplishments including a personal narrative illustrating how the candidate's work has advanced design, practice, or education; enhanced the profession through active engagement; leadership, and benefited the communities with volunteer efforts

  • Exhibits  with images, drawings, or other materials that demonstrate the candidate's accomplishment,

  • Provide the candidate's initial date and state of licensure

 

Winner is selected by two Fellows and two past recipients of the Fred Pryor Young Architect Awards.

ELIGIBILITY

 

Entries are to be made by active members of AIA Orlando in accordance with specific instructions for each award.

To nominate an individual or company in the industry:

1. Please fill out the Chapter Service Recognition Nomination Form below. 
 

2. Individuals and firms nominated must submit their complete application electronically in a PDF format and email it to ellie@aiaorlando.com. Nominations for Chapter Service Recognition Awards should include a clear description of how the individual being nominated meets the spirit of the requirements for being honored in the categories listed below.  Specific examples of how the individual meets the criteria should be included.

 

3. There is a new processing fee of $50 per nomination
 

4. Recipients will be recognized at the 2024 Design Awards Gala.
